Advanced Music Performance in Italy

Eye of the Oculus, Rome, ItalyThe Alessandria program offers a unique opportunity for intensive practice and performance in the culturally rich surroundings of Italy. Students have wonderful opportunities to perform with Italian musicians in a wide variety of chamber and orchestral ensembles. Located in the heart of the Piemonte region, Alessandria is in near proximity to three of Italy’s most exciting cities, Milan, Torino, and Genova

Bali & Beyond

BaliIn this program, students will learn about Balinese culture through first-hand experience, travelling to a variety of communities, temples and other cultural sites throughout Bali and surrounding islands.  In Bali, students will visit temple sites nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status, the center of Balinese arts and culture in Ubud, the thousand year old rice terraces of Tampak Siring, the highland village of Puakan, and the world-famous surf break Uluwatu.

 

Europe: Unearthing the Past

ColliseumA Maymester program that focuses on the history, art, architecture, and archaeology of Europe with site visits to iconic monuments, museums, and excavations.  Various topics and itineraries throughout Europe examine the material culture of Classical Europe (Troy to Augustine) and its Legacy on Western Culture.  Students enroll in 2 courses (6 credit hours total): CLAS4130 Archaeology of Rome's Provinces and a second course depending on the program itinerary: CLAS4395 Legacy of Classical Antiquity OR CLAS4390 The Grand Tour OR CLAS4110 Early Rome and the Etruscans

Freiburg Study Abroad

SchwabentorThe Freiburg Study Abroad program is designed for students who want to learn German language skills and study German culture while having a transformative experience abroad. While intensive study immerses students in German language, the program also offers a German culture course (GRMN 3550). This course is taught in English and focuses on the sustainable energy practices used in and around Freiburg and exposes students to new and progressive ideas in environmentalism and renewable resources.

 

Korean Internship

TempleThe Korean language program at the University of Georgia provides UGA students with an opportunity to work as interns in a Korean high school or a college during the summer of 2018. It is a one-month unpaid internship with free board and lodging.

 

Maymester in Tanzania

TanzaniaTanzania Study Abroad Programs are once-in-a-lifetime experiential education opportunities to study in Africa. Students have the chance to interact with the local people and places in a hands-on setting instead of in a classroom. All of the courses offered are intergrated with one another for a holistic, interdisciplinary educational experience. Students learn how to find sustainable solutions to common problems.  

 

Morocco Summer Abroad: Islam, Islamic Culture, Arabic, and Intercultural Dialogue

The overall aim of the course is to introduce students to an in-depth and first-hand understanding of Islam and Islamic culture in Morocco, in particular to Sufism (which is currently undergoing a revival in Morocco), Moroccan Islamic music, and Moroccan architectural art. Students will become acquainted with the socio-religious and socio-political issues that are shaping both the Islamic world and Morocco.

Courses are taught on six different campuses, three of them located in São João del-Rei and the other three in the towns of Divinópolis, Ouro Branco, and Sete Lagoas. The University offers a stimulating environment for academic work, and at the same time, situated as it is in the historical heart of the state of Minas Gerais, it gives access to a range of cultural activities and attractions.

Service-Learning in Tanzania

Tanzania Study Abroad Programs are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to study in Africa. Students have the chance to interact with the local people and places in a hands-on setting instead of in a classroom. All of the courses offered are integrated with one another.  Students learn how to find sustainable solutions to common problems.   This is one of the most economical ways to travel to Africa for half the price of commercial African safaris.

 

University of Liverpool Summer Study Abroad

LiverpoolExplore the modern city of Liverpool and the coastal beauty of Northern Wales!  Students will receive credit for two courses for a total of six credit hours.   Students enroll in two courses:  SOCI 4590 (Crime in Global Context, taught by Professor Jody Clay-Warner,) and POLS 4781 (Criminal Justice Systems in the U.S. and Britain, taught by Professor Susan Haire,). In these courses students learn about the U.K. criminal justice system and explore variation in crime around the globe. 



Study Abroad and Internships: Theatre and Film Studies in London

LondonThe Department of Theatre and Film Studies has a long history of studies abroad. Since 2000, the Department has sponsored a summer program in London that is typically offered every other year.   The next program will be operating in May and June of 2019.



Study Abroad in Russia

RussiaThe Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies offers a 6-weeks summer study abroad program in St. Petersburg (Russia’s cultural capital) and Moscow (Russia’s official capital and a major political, economic, cultural and scientific center). Students have an excellent opportunity to earn 9 credit hours (or 11 credit hours for the beginners) while studying various aspects of the Russian language and culture and experiencing Russian culture firsthand.



Franklin - UGA a Paris, France

The UGA à Paris study abroad program focuses upon the economy, politics, culture, and history of France and Western Europe.  Spending nearly six weeks in Paris, students will not only have the opportunity to gain credit towards their degrees but also to soak up aspects of Parisian and French culture. The program also includes overnight trips to the Loire Valley, where students will visit several chateaux, and to Normandy and to Brittany, among many other locations.



UGA Classics in Rome

The Department of Classics encourages its majors and minors to study abroad to enhance their understanding of the classical world. The Department operates its own Study Abroad program in Rome (UGA Classics in Rome) which offers undergraduate students nine hours of course credit during the summer. 



UGA en Buenos Aires

UGA en Buenos Aires is a Spanish immersion program based in the vibrant and cosmopolitan capital city of Argentina—the land of los guaraníes, los criollos, el mate, el tango, Jorge Luis Borges, el peronismo, las Madres de la Plaza de Mayo, Lionel Messi y muchísimos porteños. Our goals are to foster students´ communicative abilities in Spanish in authentic contexts, to deepen their understanding of Argentina and Latin America, and to improve their analytical and writing skills in Spanish. 



UGA en España, Cadiz-Summer

The UGA en Espana, Cádiz program focuses on the Spanish language and culture.  Students take two SPAN courses (6 academic credits) taught on the campus of the University of Cádiz by UCA faculty.  Courses offered include intermediate and advanced conversation and composition, topics in Spanish culture, and introduction to Hispanic Linguistics.  The program features a homestay in local homes with full board and weekly laundry.  Activities include a weekend trip to Granada to visit the world-famous Alhambra.



UGA en España, Madrid-Barcelona

The Madrid-Barcelona program is an intense maymester that is a four-week experience built around SPAN 4120, a special topics in Spanish culture.  The program gives students an array of cultural activities from the high art and sophistication of such world-class museums as the Prado and the Reina Sofía to the more popular worlds of Spanish fútbol and cinema. Students will also get inside looks at Spanish politics and history through guided visits to the Spanish Senate and the Palacio Real, and sample some of the country’s most emblematic cuisine, from common tapas to roast suckling pig.



UGA en España, Peru Medical Spanish

The Peru Medical Maymester is an intense, one-month adventure in the big country of Peru designed for future medical professionals who intend to integrate the use of Spanish in their careers.  The program involves both coursework in medical Spanish and a strong practical component in which students shadow Peruvian doctors in their rounds and consultations in local medical facilities. 



UGA en España, Seville Summer

The Seville program is a seven-week stay in Spain’s storied cultural capital and the undisputed heart of Andalucía. Daily classes on Spanish culture, language, and business are taught by local academics from the universities of Seville and Pablo de Olavide, and students live and have three meals a day with local families. 



UGA en España, Valencia Spring

The Valencia Spring program is a 15-week semester option.  Students take four courses for the spring, choosing between language, culture, literature, and film courses.  Courses are taught on the campus of the University of Valencia by native UV faculty, and students live at the Colegio Mayor Rector Peset, an official UV residence hall located in the heart of the city’s casco antiguo.  Native Spanish as well as international students from South America, Asia, and elsewhere in Europe provide a wealth of opportunities for new friendships.
