Gail Taylor Baldwin (BFA ’69 in Art) is pursuing a Gerontology Certificate from the University of Georgia.

Robert B. Cook, Jr. (MS’68, PhD’71 in Geology) is professor and head of the Department of Geology at Auburn University.

Vince Matthews (BS’65, MS’67 in Geology) is director and state geologist for Colorado Geological Survey in Littleton, CO.


1970s

J. Anthony Holmes (AB’74 in Religion, MA’77 in Economic Geography) is the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Burkina Faso.


1980s

Michael J. Dorais (PhD’87 in Geology) is the director of the Electron Microprobe Lab and research professor at Brigham Young University in Utah.

Dr. Shari Freyermuth (BS’84 in Genetics) is an assistant professor in the biochemistry department at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Kevin Gantz (BS’84 in Geology) is the founder of Gantz Environmental LTD, an environmental consulting agency in Canton, GA.

Amy F. MacRae (Ph.D’88 in Genetics) is an assistant professor in the biochemistry and molecular biology department at St. Louis University Medical School.

David Newsome (BS’88 in Genetics) works in the biology department at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge, MA.

Dr. Laura Norrell (BS’87 in Genetics) is medical director and obstetrician/gynecologist at St. Luke’s Hospital in San Francisco, CA. She also serves on the clinical faculty at UC-San Francisco and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Karen R. Obenshain (MS’81 in Geology) is a staff scientist at Keller and Heckman LLP in Washington, D.C., specializing in technical issues related to the regulation of pesticides.

Eric K. Steffe (BS’86, MS’89 in Genetics) is a partner in the intellectual property law firm of Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox in Washington, D.C.

Mark Williams (BS’86 in Genetics, MST’88 in Science Technology) is a doctoral candidate in curriculum and instruction at Iowa State University.

Cheri Wranosky (BFA’84) is art director for the The Franklin Chronicle and University of Georgia’s alumni magazine. Wranosky and several other UGA ceramists contributed to a new book entitled, 500 Figures in Clay: Ceramic Artists Celebrate the Human Form published by Lark Books.


1990s

C. Fred T. Andrus (AB’90 in Anthropology, PhD’00 in Geology) is an assistant professor at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Todd Arnold (PhD’92 in Genetics) was promoted to international director of the Scientific Applications Support Services group at CUNO, Inc., Meriden, CT. CUNO is a world leader in fluid purification and supplies products for health care, fluid processing, and potable water markets.

Brandon Ason (BS’97) is doing postdoctoral work at the Hubrecht Laboratory in the Netherlands.

Larry Ryan Baugh (BS’97 in Genetics) has received his PhD from Harvard’s department of molecular and cellular biology, and is now a postdoctoral research fellow at Caltech in Pasadena, CA.

Joseph A. Bedell (BS’91 in Genetics) has received this PhD in genetics from the UC-Irvine, and is the director of bioinformatics at Orion Genomics in St. Louis, MO.

Joe B. Blumer (BS’94 in Genetics) received his PhD from Emory University and is now a postdoctoral fellow in the department of pharmacology and experimental therapeutics at LSU Health Sciences Center.

Donna Bowman (MA’93 in Religion) is chair of the honors program at the University of Central Arkansas. She has published one book The Divine Decision (Westminster Press) and has a second book forthcoming on Process Theology.

Jason Brown (BS’94 in Genetics, PhD’01 in Cellular Biology) teaches in the biology department at Young Harris College in Georgia.

Ben Calhoun (BS’92 in Genetics) completed the MD/PhD program at the Medical College of Georgia in 1999 and is now a pathologist at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

Ginger E. Carney (BS’91, PhD’98 in Genetics) is an assistant professor in the department of biology at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. She is married to Adam Jones (PhD’98 in Genetics) who is also an assistant professor at Texas A&M.

Tamara Claridge (BS’98 in Genetics) is a pharmacotherapy specialist in cardiothoracic transplant at Tampa General Hospital in FL, and has recently achieved board certification.

Michael Dodd (BS’97) is a postdoctoral fellow at the Medical College of Georgia where he received this PhD in molecular medicine in 2004.

Kelly Dowd (MA’96 in Religion) received his JD degree at the University of Virginia and practices law at Bragdon & Berkson, P.C. in Keene New Hampshire.

Michael Goodisman (PhD’98) is an assistant professor in the department of biology at Georgia Tech.

Ed Green (BS’97) is a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley.

Kathryn Greene (AB’92 in Speech Communication) is an associate professor in the department of communication at Rutgers University, and is immediate past chair of the National Communication Association’s Health Communication Division.

Bob Gregerson (PhD’91 in Genetics) is the Willie D. Bryan professor of biology at Lyon College, Arkansas.

David Hall (PhD’99 in Genetics) is a research computational scientist in the Bioinformatics Group at The Research Triangle Institute in N.C. Coincidentally, his supervisor, Jamie Cuticchia (PhD’92 in Genetics), is also a Franklin College graduate.

Becky Steinichen Hobbs (BS’97 in Genetics) is a general dentist in Savannah, GA.

Kalen J. Karmer (BS’97 in Geology) is a senior geologist with United Consulting, an environmental engineering firm headquartered in Norcross, GA.

Dhea Maloney (BS’99 in Genetics) is completing her PhD program in molecular immunology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Martin Moore (BS’95 in Biology, PhD’03 in Genetics) is a postdoctoral research fellow at Vanderbilt Medical School in Nashville, TN.

Rebecca Frankhauser Morris (BS’96 in Genetics) received her DMV from The University of Georgia and is an intern in small animal medicine and surgery at the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Allan C. Nix (BS’91 in Geology) is president and founder of Environmental Advantage, Inc., an environmental consulting firm in Woodstock, GA.

Azam Nizamuddin (MA’93 in Religion) is in the legal profession in Chicago, IL and is active in civic discussions on the historical, political, cultural and religious relationships between Islam and the West. He is a board member of the National Council of Community and Justice and teaches courses on Islam at Elmhurst College.

Chris Rank (BFA’94) is a freelance photographer and graphic designer in Atlanta. He received his Masters in photography from Syracuse University. Rank worked as a photojournalist and continues to take assignments from publications such as Fortune, Sports Illustrated and The New York Times.

Forrest Reynolds (MA’96 in Religion) is working in the Massachusetts Court of Appeals after receiving his JD degree from the University of Texas.

Michael Rhodes (AB’04, MA’03 in Religion) received his PhD from Durham in England and is currently an adjunct professor at Loyola University in Chicago, IL.

Kevin Roy (MFA’05) has accepted a position as assistant professor of media arts at Eastern Oregon University in Monmouth, OR.

Jason H. Smouse (BS’96 in Genetics) graduated in 2002 from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and is currently a resident in pathology at Brigham And Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA.

Travis Stracker (BS’96 in Genetics) is a postdoctoral research associate at Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research in New York, NY.

James Voltz (BS’97 in Genetics) received his PhD from Duke University and will be starting a postdoctoral research position at the National Institute of Environmental and Health Sciences.

Drew Wade (BS’97 in Genetics) graduated from Emory Medical School and is currently in radiology training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Brian Washburn (BS’84 in Microbiology, PhD’92 in Genetics) heads a group in the molecular diagnostics department at bio-Merieux, Inc. in Durham, NC.

Alice Watson (BS’99 in Genetics) is a third-year PhD candidate at University of California-Berkeley.

Chad Wilkes (AB’94, MA’96 in Religion) recently completed his PhD in Systematic Theology at Southern Methodist University. He is currently adjunct professor at North Lake College in Irving, TX.

Eunice Wirtz Youmans (AB’96 in Religion) received an MA in Islamic Studies at Vanderbilt University and is working as a Fellow in Public Diplomacy for the Washington Institute for Near East Policy in Washington, D.C.


2000s

Asa Cordle (BS’00 in Genetics) is a technology manager at The Research Triangle Institute in North Carolina where he provides technology transfer consulting services, primarily to NASA.

Bradford Downs (AB’01, MA’03 in Religion) is currently a lecturer at Loyola University in New Orleans, LA.

Lei Fang (PhD’04 in Genetics) is a postdoctoral research associate at the Salk Institute, La Jolla, CA.

Patrick Flibotte (MFA’05) has accepted a position as assistant professor of sculpture at Miami University in FL.

Laura U. Gilliland (PhD’01 in Genetics) is a postdoctoral research associate in Michigan State University’s department of biochemistry and molecular biology.

Jennifer Graff (MFA’02) has accepted a position as assistatnt professor of ceramics at Gainesville College in GA.

Teresa Harris (BFA’05) has been accepted to the University of Louisville Graduate Studies in Art Therapy.

Chuck Hemard (MFA’05) has accepted a position as assistant professor of photography at Columbus State University in Columbus, GA.

Sonam Kachru (AB’02, MA’05 in Religion) is attending Harvard University in the MTS program.

Erika Litchfield (AB’04 in History) has received a teaching assistantship in the department of communications at Georgia State University.

Katy Morris (BS’04 in Genetics) is attending medical school at Louisiana State University in New Orleans.

Ivan W. Mott (PhD’03 in Genetics) is a research geneticist for the USDA Agricultural Research Service-Forage and Range Research Laboratory in Logan, UT.

Payal Nanda (BS’05 in Genetics) is a first-year student at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Gautham Pandiyan (BS’04 in Genetics) is a PhD candidate in molecular cancer biology at Duke University.

Lowell Rayburn (PhD’04 in Genetics) is a postdoctoral researcher at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

John Rudel (MFA’02 in Art) has accepted a position as assistant professor of drawing and painting at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, VA.

Lotus Seeley (AB’04 in Women’s Studies) is beginning a master’s program in Women’s Studies at Ohio State University.

Chrissy Spencer (PhD’03 in Genetics) is a postdoctoral fellow in zoology at the University of British Columbia.

Bethany Springer (MFA’01 in Art) will be a visiting assistant professor in sculpture at Drake University in Iowa.

Chantal Stepney (AB’04 in Women’s Studies) is working as a Youth Program Coordinator with the Fulton County Human Services department, Office of Children and Youth, in Atlanta.

Greg Swartzberg (AB’05 in Philosophy & Political Science) works in the offices of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Heagher & Flom, a corporate law firm based in NYC specializing in corporate takeovers, mergers and acquisitions, administrative law and civil litigation.

Momin Uddin (PhD’02 in Hydrogeology) works for KNOLL Environmental, Inc., an environmental consulting firm in Needham, MA.

Nwak Umejiego (BS’04 in Cellular Biology) has been continuing his research at Brendeis University on cryptosporidium parvum, a diarrhea-causing agent. He entered Harvard School of Medicine in September.

Rusty Wallace (MFA’00 in Art) has accepted a position as assistant professor of art at Young Harris College in GA.
