Georgia Debate Union members win Vandy tournament

GDU Vandy teaser.jpgThe team of Alyssa Hoover, a sophomore from Alpharetta, and Tripp Haskins, a freshman from College Park, powered the Georgia Debate Union to a first place finish at the Vanderbilt University intercollegiate debate tournament held in Nashville October 13 - 15.

Hoover and Haskins, pictured here with their first place trophy, went undefeated during the tournament, earning wins over Emory University, Georgia State University, the University of Louisville, and Missouri State University.  Haskins and Hoover were also recognized as the 2nd and 3rd speakers in the varsity division at the tournament.  

The Vanderbilt tournament is held every two years in mid-October and this year featured universities around the country, including teams representing Vanderbilt, Central Florida, Florida State, Samford, Wayne State, and Northern Iowa.  
The Georgia Debate Union also won the Vanderbilt tournament in 2015.
