Yes, move-in day is only a few short weeks away, and our friends at University Housing are looking for volunteers to streamline the move-in process for students and their families.

University Housing will welcome all new and returning students to Athens on Tuesday, August 11, and Wednesday, August 12, during Hunker Down with Housing.

Volunteers from the community, students and all university staff are invited to help welcome approximately 8,000 new and returning students and parents during the first two days of move in. Volunteers are essential to the continued success of Hunker Down with Housing and play vital roles in giving directions to area parking lots, directing traffic and serving as a resource for residents and their families. Since the first Hunker Down with Housing in 1998, volunteers in their characteristic red t-shirts have efficiently moved in more than 88,000 students.

Sixty percent of University Housing residents move in during Hunker Down with Housing, mainly into Brumby, Creswell and Russell Halls. By cooperating with the UGA Police Department, Athens-Clarke County Police, Parking Services and a couple hundred volunteers, University Housing aims to ensure a safe and efficient move-in for everyone.

Volunteers, students and families can follow the day’s activities via social media using the hashtag #HDWH15. Housing will be coordinating with local law enforcement and volunteers across campus to send out live updates on traffic, parking and check-in lines on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook.

Volunteers are welcome [and no heavy lifitng is required] so get ready to help with the big move-in next month.
