One of our favorite, young Hodgson School of Music alumni, tenor Joseph Brent continues his quest as a performer and artist in the Michigan Opera's production of Copland's The Tender Land:

The Tender Land is the quintessential American opera composed by Aaron Copland, the Dean of American composers. His music is readily recognizable and speaks of the American landscape. The opera is about a traditional, humble, rural 1930s family suspicious of outsiders and their morals. Over 1,000 high school students from Georgia and South Carolina visited the Hugh Hodgson School of Music last month as part of the annual music festival, JanFest:

Earlier today, the UGA community gathered for the 13th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Breakfast in the Grand Hall of the tate Student Center. Sponsored by UGA, the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and the Clarke County School District, the MLK Freedom Breakfast commemorates the life of the late civil rights leader.
