Spring Commencement 2014

It's a great week on campus. The 2014 Spring Undergraduate Commencement exercise will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 7 p.m. inside Sanford Stadium. Athens is beginning to flow with excited and proud parents, family members as well as the graduates themselves. An exciting time for all involved, and the reason at the center of all activity at the university.

Commencement itself then is a spectacle equal to grandeur of the occasion. And in that spirit, this year will also feature a special musical premiere:

The Band Program in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music is nationally renowned for multiple reasons, and most have to do with the artistic leadership of outgoing director of bands John Lynch. Whether recordings by the Wind Ensemble or memorable performances by the Redcoat Marching Band, our music students represent the the university exceedingly well, consistently performing at the highest levels, no matter the venue or ensemble.

So with Lynch departing for a new opportunity elsewhere, the director of bands was a crucial personnel opportunity for the Hodgson School and the university....

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music is home to the finest musicians you could ever hope to hear play, sing and perform. Our performance students are required to play recitals as part of their degree programs and every semester, you have the opportunity to come and listen (free!) to many wonderful performances.

The recital really stack up at this time of year, with several each day. Have a look at the School of Music calendar, come out and enjoy great music!



2nd Thursday to feature UGA Symphony Orchestra

Because of spring break, the March 2nd Thursday Concert in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music will be performed on March 6 at 8 p.m. in Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall at the UGA Performing Arts Center. The concert, featuring the UGA Symphony Orchestra performing Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 in E major, is not to be missed:
