The Lamar Dodd School of Art presents the Master of Fine Arts degree Exit show at the Georgia Museum of Art April 8 to May 14, with a free opening reception at the museumon Friday April 7 at 5:30 p.m.:

This year's graduates present a wide variety of work, diverse in medium, theme, scale and style. They are Thomas Bosse, Reid Brechner, Julia Megan Burchett, Ellie Dent, Jamie Diaz, Arron Foster, Meirav Goldhour, Zachary Harris, Ariel Lockshaw, Shuk Han Lui, Jonathan Nowell, Amanda Scheutzow, Stephanie Sutton and Dan Vu.

An accomplished group of artists, many of these candidates...

Paul Pfeiffer’s groundbreaking work in video, sculpture, and photography uses technology to dissect the role that mass media plays in shaping consciousness. The results, often mesmerizing but always thought-provoking, will be the subject of his lecture this afternoon as the 2016 Lamar Dodd Professorial Chair:

[Pfeiffer] transforms them to inspire contemplation of the role played by mass-media in contemporary culture. Often integrating monumental and miniature scales, his works challenge viewers to take a second look at familiar objects and images.

Art, and particularly sculpture, in public spaces can be a strange phenomenon, especially when it is such a rare occurence as it is in most of the United States. Not only statuary per se, though through that as well, but sculpture can consecrate public spaces in ways that few elements can, opening them up and giving them over to all in a way even when the spaces are already public. It's a explicit form of displaying our commonwealth, and to the extent we are unacquainted with it, we have less esteem for that kind of shared space, much less shared experience.

Tonight from 5-8 pm the Lamar Dodd School of Art throws open its doors as part of the Spotlight on the Arts festival. The open house includes exhibit space and studios in the:

School of Art Main Building, Ceramics Building & Thomas Street Building Demonstrations, activities, exhibitions, lectures & more, including the Visual Resource Library, Art Education, Art History, Graphic Design, Scientific Illustration, Art-X, Photography, Painting and Drawing, Printmaking and Bookarts, Fabric Design, Ceramics, Jewelry/Metals and Sculpture.

Lauren Fensterstock lecture at the Dodd

The Lamar Dood School of Art welcomes Maine-based installation artist Lauren Fensterstock to campus for a lecture on Sept. 30 at 5:30 pm:

Based in Portland, Maine, Fensterstock is an artist, writer and curator whose work was the subject of a recent major solo exhibition at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where she filled four rooms with cut paper flowers to create an immersive environment, and another at the Contemporary Austin in Austin, Texas. Her work is held in public and private collections in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
