The visual, literary and performing arts take center stage beginning November 1 during the sixth annual Spotlight on the Arts festival, which features nearly 100 events and exhibitions over 12 days:

The fall tradition continues with this year’s Concert On The Lawn presented by the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. The concert—featuring the Hodgson School’s premier wind band, the Hodgson Wind Ensemble, with special guests the UGA Jazz Ensemble—leans into its proximity to Halloween with a theme of “Witches and Wizards.” Pieces from “The Wizard of Oz,” “The Wiz,” “Wicked” and the “Harry Potter” series join Sousa marches and Karl King’s “Invictus” on the program.

Georgia Debate Union members win Vandy tournament

The team of Alyssa Hoover, a sophomore from Alpharetta, and Tripp Haskins, a freshman from College Park, powered the Georgia Debate Union to a first place finish at the Vanderbilt University intercollegiate debate tournament held in Nashville October 13 - 15.

Hoover and Haskins, pictured here with their first place trophy, went undefeated during the tournament, earning wins over Emory University, Georgia State University, the University of Louisville, and Missouri State University.  Haskins and Hoover were also recognized as the 2nd and 3rd speakers in the varsity division at the...

The Homecoming parade kicks off Friday at 6 p.m. and winds through downtown Athens. Led by the Redcoat Band, the parade will include floats, displays, spirit squads and appearances by UGA athletes and university and Athens dignitaries.

Congratulations to the UGA seniors, and especially the five Franklin majors, on the ten-member 2017 Homecoming Court. Good luck everyone and welcome back to the many alumni on campus today and this weekend. Happy Homecoming!
