UGA CORE Concert
Dance Company is a pre-professional dance company founded in 1991
under the artistic direction of Bala Sarasvati. CORE serves as
a training base for students interested in seeking a professional
career in dance following graduation, and is central in the preparation
of students for graduate school, teaching positions in education
and professional choreography and performance careers. CORE members
take part in workshops, guest artist residencies and lecture demonstrations
and maintain contact with the professional dance world through
residencies with choreographers, performers and dance educators.
An experimental
company by nature, CORE performs traditional modern, post modern,
theatrical and interdisciplinary works. Since 1993, CORE has gained
notable popularity through several unique collaborations incorporating
interactive computer, visual arts, literature, martial arts, new
music and more into full evening multi-medial performances. In
addition, the company rehearses with professional choreographers
annually restaging repertory dance pieces and creating new works,
culminating in annual mainstage and touring performances. CORE
performs throughout the Southeast and Mid Atlantic regions of
the United States for university, regional, national and international
events. CORE's annual outreach tour offers concerts, lecture demonstrations
and master classes to public and private schools in the state
and region.
