Millie Claiborne earned a B.A. Degree in Dance
Education from Goucher College. At Goucher, Millie had the opportunity
to perform in dance works by Jose Limon, Doris Humphrey, and
work with guest artists who studied with Paul Taylor, Doug Varone,
and Bill T. Jones. It is at Goucher where Millie discovered
her interest in the educational theories of Howard Gardner,
John Dewey, and Elliot Eisner. Millie received a Masters Degree
in Dance from American University. While at American, Millie
wrote a Masters Thesis, 'Dance assessment and National Standards:
1994 2002,' which focuses on the standing of dance education
in reference to assessment. While in D.C., Millie had the opportunity
to work at the National Endowment for the Arts, where she worked
closely with grant applications for dance education programs.
Millie is delighted to be teaching modern in the dance department
at UGA. She hopes to be able to share her knowledge of dance
education as well as learn from the talented students and faculty.
