FRES 1010

Fall 2001

Julie Greer Johnson

Office Hours:  Third Period MWF

This seminar will focus primarily on the presentation of Spanish American culture in the film adaptations of works by Spanish American authors such as Allende, Cabeza de Vaca, Cortazar, Esquivel, Fuentes, Paz, Puig, and Vargas Llosa.  Films are in English or have English subtitles.

Each week, on Wednesdays, the film to be discussed the following week will be available for viewing on the seventh floor of the main library. Attached is a list of the films we will see this semester along with their discussion dates.

Your final grade of Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory will be determined by four one-page papers to be turned in on  September  19, October 10, October 31, and November 28.

There is no final examination.

Students are expected to attend class weekly and participate in discussions.  In order to get credit for this seminar students should not miss more that three classes.

The University's academic honesty policy will be observed in this class.

The course syllabus provides a general plan for the course; deviations may be necessary when a designated film is not available for that week.
