As Associate Dean, Michelle Momany is the liaison for the biological sciences, including the departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Genetics, Marine Sciences, Microbiology, Plant Biology, and the Division of Biological Sciences. She also has general responsibility for research and facilities matters for the Franklin College.
Dr. Momany is a Professor of Fungal Biology in the Plant Biology Department, and served as the head of that department from 2008-2014. Her research in fungal biology is widely known and well-cited, and she has served on the boards of several scientific journals and policy committees. She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a National Academies Education Fellow in the Life Sciences, a recipient of the Sandy Beaver Teaching Award, and a former Burroughs Wellcome New Investigator in Pathogenic Mycology. Dr. Momany has served on numerous UGA committees, including the Science Learning Center Steering Committee, and since 2004 she has served as the coordinator of the UGA Fungal Biology group.
