Faculty Resources

  • Our college supports a thriving multicultural and interdisciplinary community through the leadership of several units such as the Institutes for Women’s Studies, African American Studies, Native American Studies, Latin & Caribbean Studies, African Studies, and the Center for Asian Studies.
  • Likewise our college is home to a number of faculty and/or student led scholarly groups, workshops, and programs that promote and disseminate knowledge throughout the university and the world such as:  Feminisms, Nationalisms, and Transnationalism Workshop, the Students for Diversity in the STEM Disciplines (SD2) organization, the Multicultural Archive of Georgia, and   Research and Engagement in Diversity (RED).
  • The  Franklin Diversity Lecture  which was launched in 2008 by Dr. Peggy McIntosh, the renowned privilege scholar-activist, brings diversity and equity scholars and leaders to campus.
  • We support continuous conversations related to diversity in and across the disciplines through the Franklin Visiting Scholar Initiatives which provides Franklin units with the opportunity to bring in scholars to lead staff, students, and faculty in new diversity conversations related to their scholarship or to engage in strategizing around recruiting and retaining underrepresented faculty and students.
  • We are always seeking ways to recruit more students to the college and frequently partner with the UGA graduate school in the support of that mission as it relates to graduate students.  The Prospective Graduate Student Travel Fund, provides funding to Franklin units that are actively recruiting underrepresented students to their graduate program.
  • Monthly Diversity Dialogue lunches provide members of the college community the opportunity to engage in conversation about diversity in the college and creates much needed opportunities for peer mentoring and networking, especially for the newest members of our community.
  • In order to make sure that our offices, laboratories, classrooms, and studios are indeed areas where all students, faculty, and staff are welcomed and their contributions appreciated, the college engages in a regular diversity climate assessment to inform college leadership of areas of strength as well as opportunities for greater growth in regards to diversity and inclusion.
  • The college’s goals to be diverse and inclusive is supported by a team of faculty and staff, the Franklin Taskforce for Diversity and Inclusion, which continually  identifies key opportunities for the recruitment and retention of all members of our communities as well as creating new ways of supporting underrepresented members of the college.
  • Similarly, the Graduate Student Diversity Advisory Board keeps the college informed about the climate for diversity for graduate students throughout all divisions of the college and sponsors events to promote greater dialogue about diversity for the graduate student population.

  • Our faculty have National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) awards which support the research training of underrepresented students.

  • The college frequently partners with other UGA units such as the Office of Institutional Diversity, the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the College of Education, the Terry College of Business in hosting speakers and events that broaden our institution’s perspectives related to issues of identity and difference.
