  The Hodgson Wind Ensemble’s (HWE) first concert of the 2018-2019 season will be happening on Tuesday, September 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall. Led by Cynthia Johnston Turner, Director of Bands, the ensemble will perform major works by Willem Van Otterloo, Leonard Bernstein, Frank Ticheli, and Michael Martin. Antonio Vivaldi’s four concertos, known as The Four Seasons, are among the world’s best-loved compositions. Each concerto represents one of of the four seasons of the year. The plucked strings in “Winter” suggest the cold rain. There is a thunderstorm in “Summer,” and even a barking dog in “Spring.” The ASO’s associate concertmaster Justin Bruns will be the violin soloist.

Daniel Bolshoy, lecturer of guitar, performs the finale of 2018’s Hugh Hodgson Faculty Series—his first such recital since joining the faculty in 2016. His concert tours have led him to perform with more than 60 orchestras internationally, and he’s performed at chamber music festivals all across North America in collaboration with other performers and as a soloist.
