Trans-Affirming Practice in Education and the Helping Professions

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will be facilitiating a day-long workshop on trans-affirming practices for educators and helping professionals. In this training, participants will review foundational knowledge related to Trans-affirming terminology and best practices for creating an affirming environment for trans and non-binary students, clients, and colleagues within professions and the community.

There are three modules in this workshop:

In the first module, attendees will review the history of trans communities, trans-affirming language, and the landscape for trans communities.

In the second module, participants will brainstorm strategies and practices that supports trans communities.

The last module will involve the participants coming together to learn about the ways they can create and support affirming spaces for Trans communities within Athens.
