Advising Objectives
To assist Liberal Arts Students in attaining
an education, the concern of the Advising Program is twofold: Informational
and Developmental. Thus, the objectives of the Program can be organized
into these two essential categories.
Informational Objectives:
- To assist students in exploring the breadth
and depth of the offerings of the Franklin College.
- To provide accurate information regarding
college and institutional policies, procedures and regulations,
educational options, core and major requirements, curricular offerings,
registration procedures and deadlines.
- To review the student's selection of classes
for each upcoming semester to assure appropriate course choices
leading in a timely fashion toward designated degree/major or
pre-professional program.
- To maintain accurate and complete advising
records based upon all information available.
- To refer students to available institutional
and/or community resources, programs, and support services.
- To work with Upper Division faculty advisors
within the College, with the undergraduate advisors in other colleges
and schools, and with representatives of other institutions to
provide students with the most current information available about
majors, departments, and programs within Arts and Sciences.
Developmental Objectives:
- To assist students in understanding the
purposes, opportunities and challenges of higher education, particularly
the value of a Liberal Arts experience.
- To assist students in planning an educational
program consistent with their interests, abilities and talents.
When necessary, to assist students in finding alternatives to
their educational goals.
- To encourage undecided, undeclared and exploratory
students to make good decisions based upon the information available
to them.
- To monitor the student's progress toward
academic and life goals.
- To assist students in planning appropriate
steps to correct academic difficulties.
