Accountability and Responsibility

If you are not familiar with the "University of Georgia Policies on the Use of Computers," visit http://www.uga.edu/~compsec/use.html. The Franklin College of Arts & Sciences policy borrows much of its content from the UGA policy; the UGA policy offers greater detail. The only authorized user of an account is the individual associated with the user id. Passwords must not be shared. Each individual is responsible for the proper use of his/her account.

The following actions and activities violate the computer use policies of The Franklin College of Arts & Sciences and The University Of Georgia.

  • Using computer systems or networks without proper authorization
  • Compromising the security of computer systems or networks
  • Denying or interfering with access to computer and network resources by authorized users
  • Using computer systems and networks for non-university business
  • Misrepresenting your identity or relationship to the university
  • Violating software copyright by using university computer systems or networks to download, copy, store or install software that is not specifically licensed for your use
  • Modifying the hardware or software configuration of any university computer system or network resource without proper authorization.
  • Sending fraudulent, harassing or obscene Email messages

If an individual violates the "The Franklin College of Arts & Sciences UNIX Account Policy" or "The University of Georgia Policies on the Use of Computers," his or her account will subject to suspension or termination.

If an individual is found to be in violation of state or federal law, his or her account will be revoked and the proper authorities will be notified.
