Helpdesk: Frequently Asked Questions

1) How do I create a PDF from a word document?

Select File then Print.  From the Printer Name: drop down box select Adobe PDF.

2) How do I convert a PDF to a word document? 

Open the MS Word document.  Select File then Save As and in the Save as type: drop down box select Microsoft Word Document (*.doc)

3) How do I select a default printer?

Click on the Start menu and select Printer and Faxes.  Right-click over the printer you want and select Set as Default Printer

4) How do I forward my Arches e-mail account to my Franklin e-mail account?

Login to https://mail.arches.uga.edu/  and select Options from the left menu.  Select Forwarding.  Then enter your Franklin e-mail address in the Forward to: box.

5) How do I request a Franklin e-mail vacation message?

Send an e-mail to away@franklin.uga.edu including the text of the message you want displayed and the dates you would like the message to appear

6) How do request a file that I have deleted be restored?

Send an e-mail to helpdesk@franklin.uga.edu and include the name of the file you want restored, the path to the file (e.g. \\hawkeye\homedir\stuff\test.doc), and the date the file was last used before it was deleted.

7) How do I create a SCREENSHOT, also known as a copy and paste what is on the current windows screen?

By pressing two keys simultaneously, CTRL + Print Screen, you will be able to copy the information from the main window to the clipboard.  Then open MS Word and paste the clipboard information into the word document.  This is known as creating a SCREENSHOT.

10) How do I burn a file to a compact disc?

  1. Right-click the item you want to burn
  2. Choose send to D: drive (your CD drive)
  3. Verify the file appears in your D: drive
  4. Hint: Notice the files are translucent
  5. Right-click the D: drive and choose Write these files to CD

11) How do I send a bulk e-mail?

  1. Obtain bulk e-mail message approval from supervisor
  2. Submit the following to helpdesk@franklin.uga.edu at least 48 hrs before the intended mailing date:
        - Message Body
        - Recipients
        - Message Subject
        - E-mail address to handle replies & bounces
        - Intended Send date
