Using the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF)

ADF Checklist (You must answer YES to each question to be able to use the ADF)

  • Is the document longer than one page? Use the scanner glass to scan documents that are only one page in length (not the ADF).
  • Is the document free of curls, tears, punch holes and wrinkles? If not, make a copy of the document.
  • Is the document free of staples, paper clips and other materials?
  • Is the document between 5.8" and 8.5" in width and 8.3" and 14" in height? For smaller documents, use the scanner glass (not the ADF) or copy the documents onto regular paper.
  • Is the document on regular printer paper? If not, make a copy of the document.

Note: The ADF will hold up to 25 sheets. If you have more than 25 sheets, separate the document so that no scan is more than 25 sheets long.

Steps to scanning using the Automatic Document Feeder

1. Make sure the scanner's glass is free of paper.
2. Move the paper load lever to the number 1 position.
3. Put the top end of the paper stack face up on the input tray with the first page to be scanned at the top of the stack.
4. Push the paper stack against the side of the ADF input tray nearest the lever. Slide it into the ADF until the paper stack does not move any further.
5. Move the paper load lever to the number 3 position. The ADF is now loaded and ready for scanning.
6. Double-click the OmniPage Pro shortcut icon on the desktop.
7. Press the green Start icon in the upper right corner.
8. Wait for the scanner to scan the document and recognize the text.
9. When the program is finished scanning it will display a Save as dialog box.
10. In the Save in box, choose the directory where you want to save the file.
11. In the File name box, type a name for the file. Click Save.
12. To continue scanning more documents, choose File > Clear. Repeat steps 1-11 as needed.
13. When finished scanning, close the OmniPage Pro software by clicking the close box of the window or choosing File and then Exit from the menu bar.

Steps to scanning a single page

1. Remove any paper from the input tray of the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).
2. Lift the ADF (by lifting from below the output tray) to expose the scanner glass.
3. Place the document face down on the scanner in the upper-right corner.
4. Lower the ADF. Your document is now ready for scanning.
5. Double-click the OmniPage Pro shortcut on the desktop.
6. Press the green Start icon in the upper right corner.
7. Wait for the scanner to scan the document and recognize the text.
8. When the program is finished scanning it will display a Save as dialog box.
9. In the Save in box, choose the directory where you want to save the file.
10. In the File name box, type a name for the file. Click Save.
11. To continue scanning more documents, choose File > Clear. Repeat steps 1-10 as needed.
12. When finished scanning, close the OmniPage Pro software by clicking the close box of the window or choosing File and then Exit from the menu bar.

Note: If the document on the scanner glass is a thin page, place a second sheet of paper behind the document to get a better scanned image.
