Welcome!  We’re pleased that you decided to visit the web site of the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences-Griffin Campus.

Unlike the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences on the University of Georgia (UGA) Athens Campus, which dates back to 1801, the Franklin College on the UGA Griffin Campus is in its infancy. In fact, the Franklin College-Griffin Campus officially opened its doors in August 2007, when it became part of UGA’s 120-year history in Spalding County, which began when the Georgia Experiment Station was established in Griffin in 1888.  In Fall Semester 2007, the Franklin College began offering its first undergraduate degree program on the UGA Griffin Campus:  a degree-completion program leading to a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Microbiology.

This program is designed for transfer students who have completed at least 60 semester hours of course work and for students interested in pursuing a second degree.

The BS degree with a major in Microbiology is a liberal arts degree with the major course work concentrated in the biological sciences.  This degree prepares students for a number of careers and for advanced studies.  A bachelor’s degree in microbiology provides students a solid foundation for professional programs in veterinary medicine, dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, etc., as well as for advanced degrees in the biological sciences, for example, Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.

We are pleased to have the opportunity to offer this degree-completion program at the Griffin Campus in order to help residents of the Griffin area meet their educational and career goals.

We are delighted to be a part of the UGA Griffin Campus and the Griffin community and would be glad to help you learn more about our BS in Microbiology degree program. Welcome!
