THREE UGA HONORS STUDENTS WIN ROTARY OSLO SCHOLARSHIPS

Athens, Ga. – Three University of Georgia Honors Program students recently were awarded scholarships through the Georgia Rotary Student Program to study this summer at the University of Oslo in Norway.

Rotary International is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 31,000 Rotary clubs located in 166 countries.  The Norwegian Rotary Advisory Board invited three students from Georgia to participate in this summer program   Each of the three Rotary districts in Georgia named one recipient.

“I am proud of these students and know that they will be outstanding ambassadors of the United States, the University of Georgia and the Honors Program,” said David S. Williams, director of the Honors Program.  “It is an exceptional feat to see that Honors Program students won all three scholarships that were offered through the Georgia Rotary Student Program.”

The recipients of the Oslo International Summer School Scholarship are:

* Michael Davis, a second-year student from Duluth majoring in history. He is the president of the Franklin Residential College (FRC) and has been an active member of the FRC since his first year.

* Sonia Dowla, a fourth-year student from Stone Mountain enrolled in the five-year master’s of accountancy program in the Terry College of Business.  She is a participant in the Bebe and Earl Leonard Undergraduate Leadership Scholars Program and also served as a peer advisor in the Honors Program.
