UGA assistant professor of physics Chad Fertig wins Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from Oak Ridge Associated Universities

Athens, Ga. – Chad Fertig, an assistant professor of physics at the University of Georgia, has been named winner of a 2006 Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from Oak Ridge Associated Universities.

Recipients of these unrestricted $5,000 research awards, which are matched by the home institution, were competitively selected from among 88 faculty applications. The peer-evaluation and selection process involved scientists from across the nation.

Fertig received his bachelor’s degree from Stanford in 1995 and his doctorate from Yale in 2002, both in physics. His research interests lie in using ultra-cold atoms to study fundamental atomic and condensed matter physics. He came to UGA in 2005.

Established in 1946, Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) is a consortium with 96 doctoral-granting members and 11 associate members. ORAU members are found in 29 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. The University of Georgia is a member institution.
