Athens, Ga. – Michael Brewer, who develops computer applications and creates and manages databases for the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia, has been selected to present a lecture at an international conference at the University of Ottawa in May.
Brewer (right) will speak at PGCon, an annual conference for users and developers of PostgreSQL, an open-source relational database.“I will be presenting a one-hour lecture entitled ‘Migrating to PostgreSQL in Academia,’” said Brewer. “It concerns moving legacy data and applications to PostgreSQL in a large university environment. I will also be moderating a two-hour session on ‘PostgreSQL in Education.’ While I've presented sessions at regional and national conferences, this is my first international conference. I'm thrilled and honored that my presentation proposals were accepted.”
PostgreSQL is, users say, the most advanced open-source database now in use. This conference is put on by the PostgreSQL community and will include major PostgreSQL developers, community leaders, book authors and other important figures.
Brewer’s responsibilities in the Franklin College Office of Information Technology include developing applications for intranet and internet use, creating and managing databases and desktop and network support.
He is a graduate of the University of Georgia with bachelor’s degrees in music and mathematics, and he has also done graduate work in computer science. One of the applications he developed won a national award for innovation in advising technology.
He is an Athens native and is active in many community organizations.
