Dr. Harris joined the Franklin College Office of Academic Advising in July, 1995. She started as an AB advisor specializing in the social sciences with an emphasis on advising Criminal Justice, Communication Studies, History and Women’s Studies majors. She served as Lead AB advisor for a number of years before becoming the Lead Pre-business advisor.
In 2005 Dr. Harris accepted her current position in the Dean’s Office, and currently works closely with Dean Eileen Kraemer in overseeing dismissal and readmission for students placed on First Dismissal from the college. She manages the STAR (Steps Toward Academic Recovery) retention program designed to support students who return to UGA following academic dismissal. She also oversees awards for the college which include Leadership UGA, Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, and Blue Key. Dr. Harris works with the Dean’s Student Advisory Board, the Fee Allocation Committee, and supports training, summer orientation, advising and other academic needs in the Office of Academic Advising.
Dr. Harris received her AB degree in Art from Queens College, Charlotte, NC and then moved to Athens where she earned an MA in Art History and a Ph.D. in Aesthetics, Theory, and Criticism. After teaching Humanities at Brenau University, working at the main library at UGA and doing graduate work she devoted time to her two daughters and a variety of community activities. Today working with young people and supporting students whose many challenging issues often hinder academic success is a truly rewarding experience.
