KNOW WHERE YOU NEED
TO GO
Because lectures are offered
by every Franklin College department, they are presented in almost
every building on campus. However, the major lecture series
that are included in the Cultural and Academic Events Program
listings(e.g.the
Center
for Humanities & Arts lectures, the
New
Media Institute Digital Brown Bag seminars, the
Georgia
Museum of Art lectures, the
Women's
Studies Noon Speaker Series) usually meet on a regularly scheduled
basis and always in the same location.
KNOW IF YOU NEED A TICKET
Virtually all of the lectures included in the Cultural and
Academic Events Program listings are free of change. If
a ticket is required, the event description will let you know.
BE POLITE
All of the lectures in the various departments are planned
and executed by the departments for their students and faculty.
They are not planned by the Franklin College Academic Advisors
for your benefit alone. You should consider yourself a guest at
these lectures and behave accordingly. Under no circumstances,
no matter how dull you find the material being discussed, should
you ever pull out other work, a newspaper or book and read it
during a lecture, nor should you talk or whisper to your neighbor.
Many of the lecturers on our list are visitors who are eminent
in their fields, and it is a poor reflection of UGA students if
people are reading, sleeping or generally not paying attention
during their talks. Besides, if you listen, you might just learn
something!
BE WHERE YOU WANT TO BE
Only attend lectures on topics that are of interest to you.
For example, if you have no interest whatsoever in Art but love
the Sciences, please do not make plans to attend the Art lecture
at the Museum, but plan instead to attend the Science lecture
later.
COME EARLY
Arrive a little bit early; no one who arrives after the lecture
has started will be allowed to get "Blue Card" credit for it.
Do not go try to ask the Host Advisor if you can have a card if
the lecture has started, as it can disturb the entire group.
STAY THE WHOLE TIME
Almost all lecturers will have a question and answer period
at the end of the talk. These can last varying amounts of time,
depending on the questions. Unless the lecturer or the person
in charge of the event specifically releases you before this time,
you should plan to stay for the entire thing. Even if other people
leave at this time, you should not do so. The event is not over
until the Host Advisor gets up to leave and indicates he or she
is ready to take your cards. Having to leave for class is not
an excuse, as you should always leave plenty of time for event
attendance between classes.
