FAQ Graduation Certification Office

How do I contact the Graduation Certification Office?

For General information . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 542-1522.

What is graduation certification?

Graduation certification is the process by which undergraduate students in the Franklin College are cleared to graduate. This is done without any action on the part of the students during the semester the student is scheduled to graduate.

Graduation Advisors are available during a student's Senior year to answer questions, discuss potential graduation dates or to provide a comprehensive checklist of remaining courses and graduation requirements.

Do I need to bring anything with me when I meet with a graduation advisor?

You may need to bring an approved list of major courses signed by your advisor. This is not a current Degree Audit Report (DAR), but rather a unique list, letter, or checksheet written for each student which lists major requirements and the courses being used to satisfy them.

Each department handles this differently. Your departmental advisor should know the departmental procedure.

How do I change my graduation date?

In most cases, you can change your own graduation date on OASIS (select the Registration Main Menu, then select the Check Degree Program / Graduation option).

If you want to move your expected graduation date to the current term or from the current term, you must come to 212 New College.

It is very important that your graduation date is accurate.

Do I need to do anything special for my Minor?

When you have met the requirements for the minor, the advisor in your minor field will then certify that fact using a "minor completion" or "minor certification" form. This certification must arrive in our office before your minor can be finalized.

The completed minor will be recorded on your permanent transcript, but not on the diploma. For students completing a minor after graduation, the statement shall appear on the transcript in chronological order following the courses taken subsequent to graduation.

When is the commencement ceremony?

There are commencement ceremonies at the end of Fall (Dec), Spring (May), and Summer (August) Semesters. For more information, please link to http://regweb.reg.uga.edu/graduation/undergraduate.html

When will I receive my diploma, and what will it say?

The diploma will list both major and degree earned, but not the minor. Multiple majors should appear on the same diploma. Multiple degrees will each be on seperate diplomas.

Degrees available through the College of Arts and Sciences are Bachelor of Arts (AB), Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (BSCHEM), Bachelor of Music (BMUS), and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA).
