The English Proficiency Test for Prospective Journalism Students
What it is:
The English Proficiency Test is a five-part multiple choice examination
which consists of twenty questions in each of the following areas:
Reading Comprehension, Language Mechanics, Language Usage, Spelling
and Vocabulary. The test takes about seventy-five minutes to complete.
A score of 77 out of a possible 100 is considered passing.
Who should take it:
Students should take the English Proficiency Test in the term after
they have completed English Composition. The test must be passed before
a student can apply and be considered for admission to the Grady College
of Journalism and Mass Communication. The test may be exempted by
students who have a score of 650 or higher on the SAT - Verbal or
30 or higher on the ACT-English.
When it is given:
The English Proficiency Test is given on a walk-in basis between
8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily. The cost for the testings is $15.00.
Students may take the test as many times as necessary, though it may
be taken no more than twice in any one term. Students who wish to
apply to the College of Journalism in the same term in which they
take the English Proficiency Test must take the test during the first
week of that term.
Where to sign up:
Students may sign up for the English Proficiency Test beginning the
first week of classes each term. Sign-up takes place in the Counseling
and Testing Center in Clark Howell Hall.
Results:
The results of the English Proficiency Test will be mailed to students
within five working days.
