2019 Seat in the Shade Poetry Series Finale with Melisa Cahnmann-Taylor & the Teacher Poets

July 30  marks the final event in the poetry series featuring Melisa Cahnmann & Teacher Poets in her class, including Sydney Clifton, Ming Sun, Traci Snipes, Susan Lane, Bekah List, Mathew Robinson, Meredith White, and Ashley Brown-Lemley. 

This event marks the close of the 7th Seat in the Shade Poetry Series, an event sponsored in part by the Georgia Writers Association, the UGA College of Education, and many other poetry champions.

Melisa (Misha) Cahnmann-Taylor, professor of language and literacy education at the University of Georgia, is the author of Imperfect Tense (poems), and three scholarly books in education. Winner of NEA “Big Read” Grants, the Beckman award for "Professors Who Inspire," and a Fulbright for nine-month study of adult Spanish language acquisition in Oaxaca Mexico, she's served for more than 10 years as poetry editor for Anthropology & Humanism, judging the ethnographic poetry competition. Her work has appeared in Georgia Review, American Poetry Review, Women’s Quarterly Review, Cream City Review, Barrow Street, and many other literary and scholarly homes.
