Art and Poetry: Tonight

As the end of another lazy summer week nears on campus, we wanted to tell you about a couple of events that are happening tonight that help promote the arts and literacy. Both events are free and provide ample reason to get out and explore something new tonight.

First up, you won't want to miss the summer version of Museum Mix, a night party at the Georgia Museum of Art with a DJ, free food and access to all of the galleries until midnight. With the sun setting later during these lazy summer days, a late night party at the museum may just well suit your schedule. Held every semester--fall, spring and summer--the events are fun for everyone. This semester's event will feature local favorite DJ Mahogany and a big new Mixgrafia exhibition featuring over 130 works by 60 big-name contemporary arts. Music, art, people, food and drink, the galleries and the sculpture garden--all free. Food is provided by Big City Bread, The Fresh Market, Transmetropolitian Pizza and Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe. Use the hashtag #museummix on social media. The festivities begin at 8 p.m.

A second event will take place at Hendershot's tonight that features a reading by renowned poet and UGA professor emeritus Coleman Barks. The reading is part of the Seat in the Shade Poetry series and begins at 7 p.m. Tomorrow night, the series continues with "Poetry by and for Educators: Readings from the Collective." The event will feature UGA educators and students and their works. The event also begins at 7 p.m. on Friday.  Learn more about the series at: https://coe.uga.edu/events/calendar/seat-in-the-shade-poetry-series-20160613?utm_source=eGaMorning&utm_campaign=de6b43b3b3-6_15_16&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_54a77f93dd-de6b43b3b3-86741361

We are proud to help celebrate and promote the arts here at the Franklin College and hope you'll get out there and take in some art or poetry tonight. Summer is the perfect season to explore new arts and meet new people. Enjoy!
