Craige Global Fellows Scholarship Application Form
This scholarship is named in honor of its donor, Betty Jean Craige, University Professor Emerita of Comparative Literature and Director Emerita of the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts. A Hispanist and a strong proponent of international exchange and collaboration during her 38 years at the University of Georgia, Dr. Craige created this award in 2011 to encourage and support Franklin College undergraduate students who wish to participate in an official UGA study abroad program in a non-English speaking environment. Selection for this award is based on financial need, academic promise, and the applicant’s own words, conveyed through a one-page essay.
Tome Study Abroad Scholarship Application Form
Created in 2006 and named in honor of UGA alumnus Bill Tome and his family, Mr. Tome established this award to enable students in the Franklin College with limited financial resources the opportunity to participate in study abroad programs. Selection for this award is based on financial need, with consideration of merit as it may affect financial aid eligibility.
Franklin College Study Abroad Scholarship Application Form
Gifts from a variety of alumni and friends—including Sam and Carleen Jones and their family, and Franklin alumnus Pat Allen—make this award possible each year. Selection for this award is based on both merit and financial need.

Guidelines and Eligibility for Application

  1. An applicant must be a non-transient, degree-seeking major in Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and completed at least one semester as an undergraduate or graduate student in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences prior to applying.
  2. An applicant must be a student in good standing at the time of submission of this application as well as during any semester he/she is to receive scholarship funds. Successful applicants will have at least a 2.5 grade point average.
  3. These scholarships are based on both need and merit; applicants must file a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FASFA form before submitting this application. No exceptions will be allowed. To qualify for consideration, applicants must submit a copy of their student financial aid award letter or a print-out of the award from OASIS.
  4. A ONE-PAGE ESSAY in which the applicant describes educational, personal, and career goals and aspirations must accompany the application form.
  5. TWO LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION attesting to an applicant's academic qualifications and personal attributes must accompany the application. These letters are important in the selection of successful applicants. Those who write the letters should indicate the nature of their relationship and how long they have known the applicant. Ideally, faculty members at UGA will provide these letters. These letters are confidential and must be enclosed in sealed envelopes on letterhead stationery with the author's signature across the sealed flap. Letters from relatives are not appropriate.
  6. Students selected for study abroad scholarships must be enrolled for at least 10 credit hours during the Spring semester (i.e., students must be enrolled during the semester of application) and are expected to take an appropriate full-course load (6-9 hours) during their summer study abroad experience.
  7. Students should submit a LETTER FROM THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR indicating that they have been accepted into a UGA-approved Summer or Maymester study abroad program.* If program acceptances have not yet been announced, a letter from the program acknowledging that the student is currently being considered for admission will suffice until acceptances are announced.

*Please note that the Craige Global Fellows Scholarship is only available to Franklin College students studying at an OFFICIAL UGA STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM in a NON-ENGLISH environment.
