International Initiatives for Students and Faculty

About Franklin College

Departments and Institutes in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences offer students and faculty a broad range of opportunities to study, teach, and conduct research. Undergraduate students will quickly discover, through a search at the UGA Study Away Portal for the Office of Global Engagement, just how many field studies, faculty-led study abroad, residential study abroad, and student exchange studies abroad experiences are available. Franklin College also sponsors its own programs for Ph.D. students and faculty: doctoral students are invited each year to apply for one-week research fellowships at the universities of Liverpool or Munich; and faculty may apply each semester for the chance to conduct a one-week exchange with faculty at a university abroad, preferably one with whom UGA has an international partnership.  At this time, we also offer a special opportunity for faculty to apply for a one-week research exchange with faculty at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (LMU). Now in its third year, the Berlin Seminar in Transnational European Studies offers fellowships to both faculty and advanced graduate students for professional development in Germany’s historic capitol city.  For a longer international teaching experience, Franklin will put out a call and review faculty applications to teach a one-semester course at the UGA at Oxford residential campus.  And last but not least, each year we offer Franklin departments the chance to nominate and host an international faculty member to come to UGA as the Franklin International Visiting Professor, teaching a course and collaborating on research during Fall semester.
