Tech Businesses in Athens

Monday, October 28, 2013 - 11:09am

Technology businesses come in all forms and sizes today, and nascent communities of tech companies can crop up almost anywhere. Increasingly, because of their vast spinoff potential and diversified workforce, communities have a strong desire to foster these communities in thier midst - to transform sleepy mainstreets into bustling, energy-producing, walkable, solar-paneled Main pathways and the like. Enter the Technology Association of Georgia, and welcome its newest Athens chapter:

The inaugural event for the new Technology Association of Georgia Athens chapter will be held at noon, Nov. 6, at the J.W. Fanning Institute for Learning Development at UGA.  Several University of Georgia colleges, including the College of Engineering, Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, are founding partners of a TAG chapter forming in Athens. All interested UGA students or Athens-area business professionals are invited to attend.  There is no charge to attend the event, however registration is required: http://bit.ly/TAGAthens1

TAG is the state’s leading association dedicated to the promotion and economic advancement of Georgia’s technology industry.  TAG Athens is the association’s newest chapter. It was developed to support the growth of the technology industry in the region and extend TAG resources throughout the state among executives, entrepreneurs, technology professionals and academia.

The Franklin College is happy to support this effort and pleased that Dean Dorsey sits on the board of the TAG Athens Chapter. It's an important show of support for all of the UGA units represented and as the home of the physical and mathematical sciences, social sciences, humanities and the fine arts, Franklin has an especially prominent responsibility to help UGA students and graduates think in entrepreneurial directions. TAG, you're it.
