UGA Student Emergency Fund, Black Alumni Scholarship

By:
Alan Flurry

In honor of Giving Tuesday, a national day of support for nonprofit organizations, UGA is spotlighting three funds that address timely issues for those seeking to give back to the university this holiday season:

UGA Student Emergency Fund

The UGA Student Emergency Fund is available to provide limited, one-time financial assistance to enrolled students who are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses because of temporary hardship related to an emergency situation, such as an accident, illness, death of a family member, natural disaster or other unforeseen circumstance (like a global pandemic).

As the COVID-19 crisis drags on, the need for emergency support will grow. Private giving can bolster student emergency funds, helping vulnerable UGA students persevere while they continue to pursue their education.

UGA Black Alumni Scholarship

The UGA Black Alumni Scholarship Fund provides scholarship funds to a first-year student who exhibits dedication to racial equality through previous experience, initiative and creativity in improving race relations in the community. This scholarship is renewable for up to three years, provided the student maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

Donors of $19.61 or more to the Black Alumni Scholarship Fund will automatically become a member of the 1961 Club. Commemorating the year in which Hamilton E. Holmes and Charlayne Hunter-Gault courageously integrated the University of Georgia, the 1961 Club continues its legacy today through its commitment to removing barriers and opening doors. Members of the 1961 Club will receive the quarterly Black Alumni e-newsletter and a window decal recognizing their proud support.

These two plus Vets for Pets and People provide broad-ranging philanthropic opportunities to have an impact across the campus and in our community. As always, thank you for your support of our students and the University of Georgia mission.
