2nd Thursday Scholarship Concert Series

On Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall, the UGA Symphony Orchestra will open the 2015­-2016 Second Thursday Scholarship Concert Series. The monthly event offers a terrific opportunity to enjoy the very best in performances by Hugh Hodgson School of Music faculty and students AND the series is an important way to support scholarships for these very same students. UGA Symphony Orchestra

Thursday, September 10 • 7:30 p.m.

Hodgson Concert Hall

Join the UGASO, under the direction of Mark Cedel, for an outstanding inaugural concert featuring Holst’s The Planets and Haydn’s Symphony No. 100, Military.

 

Brahms Sonatas

Thursday, October 8 • 7:30 p.m.

Hodgson Concert Hall

Internationally renowned faculty members Levon Ambartsumian (violin) and Evgeny Rivkin (piano) present an emotional evening of sonatas by Johannes Brahms.

 

Hodgson Wind Ensemble

Thursday, November 12 • 7:30 p.m.

Hodgson Concert Hall

An epic evening of music with the Hodgson Wind Ensemble and director Cynthia Johnston Turner features Audivi Media Nocte by Oliver Waespi and David Maslanka’s imposing Symphony No. 8. Presented as part of the 2015 Spotlight on the Arts at UGA Festival.

Mod(ular) Ensemble & Revien Trio

Hodgson Concert Hall

Two diverse ensembles—led by faculty members Connie Frigo (saxophone), Joshua Bynum, (trombone), and Philip Snyder (guitar)—bring their exciting approach to chamber music in one exciting performance.

 

Choral Showcase

Thursday, March 17 • 7:30 pm

Conductors Daniel Bara and J.D. Burnett lead the UGA Glee Clubs, Collegium Musicum, and the Hodgson Singers in a night of exciting choral music.

 

UGA British Brass Band

Thursday, April 14 • 7:30 pm

Hodgson Concert Hall

The UGA British Brass Band, under the direction of professor and retired New York Philharmonic principal trumpet Philip Smith, brings the 2015-16 2nd Thursday Series to a rousing and memorable close.
